Originally opened in 1977, the Western North Carolina Farmers Market spans an expansive 36 acres of indoor and outdoor space.

There are five open-air truck sheds that can hold up to 194 vendors, as well as several other buildings — equaling over 38,000 sq. ft. — full of local produce and crafts.

Within the market, you’ll find everything from ripe grapes, picked strawberries and watermelons to farm fresh eggs and seasonal staples like pumpkins and squash.

Along with fresh local produce, guests will find booths full of baked goods, jellies, jams, wildflowers honey and spices. There’s even a Nursery Center with a greenhouse on site that’s full of tropical plants for sale.

In case you get hungry while browsing, the on-site Moose Cafe serves up three meals a day. Their menu offers a variety of dishes including southern favorites like biscuits and gravy and Virginia honey baked ham.

The market is open seven days a week year-round. From April to October the hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from November to March it’s open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
