There’s only a handful of establishments in the Sooner State that have been around for more than a century and one of these is Eischen’s Bar in Okarche. It’s not only known as the “oldest bar in Oklahoma” but it’s also famous for its fried chicken. Take a look at this place and the fascinating history that goes along with it.

Eischen’s Saloon, as it was first called, opened in 1896 by Peter Eischen and operated until Statehood and Prohibition.

It reopened as Eischen’s Bar after the end of Prohibition by the owner’s son and grandson. It is now located at 109 South 2nd in Okarche. You can enter through the front of the building or thru the back.

As the oldest bar in the state, you would think it would feel like an antique but that’s not necessarily the case. There are several older pieces but it’s been updated over time.

In the back of the bar you’ll find a piece of the original bar that was hand carved in Spain in the early 1800s.

It was shipped to California during the Gold Rush and made its way back to Okarche in 1950. It then survived a fire at Eischen’s in 1993, and is one of the few things that remains from pre-fire days.
