Most of us are familiar with Galveston’s annual Dickens on the Strand, but did you know that the Hill Country town of Boerne hosts a similar celebration? This year marks the 18th consecutive year of Dickens on Main, an absolutely enchanting holiday festival that transports you back to the Victorian age of England. There’ll be caroling, horse-drawn carriage rides, a parade, food, shopping, and much more. So put together your best Dickens costume and come join in the fun this coming Friday and Saturday!

This weekend, Boerne’s Hill Country Mile will be transformed into a Victorian wonderland, complete with snow, ice sculptures, a slide, pictures with Santa, and holiday shopping on Main Street.

Horse-drawn carriages can be seen traveling up and down the street, allowing passengers to marvel at the shimmering lights on all of the buildings. Rides take place from 5-10pm on both days.

No festival would be complete without a towering Christmas tree. The fun kicks off with a lighting ceremony led by the mayor from 6-6:30pm on Friday night. Don’t miss it!

All of the shops along Main Street will be open for business as usual. They’ll be open from 10am to at least 9pm both nights, so be sure to stop in and pick up some holiday knick-knacks. Plus, with lights covering their exteriors from floor to ceiling, the businesses are a sight to see for sure.

The parade itself is an absolutely magical event. Dozens of floats make their way down the street, completely decked out in lights and decorations. I can’t wait to see what they’ll look like this year!

Carolers will be stationed up and down the street singing songs of yuletide and joy. Join in with them to really get into the holiday spirit!

As soon as the sun sets, snow will begin to fall from the sky all the way until 10pm. The kids will have a blast, frolicking in the flakes and pretending the warm Texas fall night is a frigid North Pole eve.
