Alaska has a long, rich history of mining, but with mining booms come busts, and then abandoned places. These spots are some of Alaska’s most fascinating – little time capsules that tell us about our history. Here’s a place that’s been abandoned since the 1940s.

The Bremner Historic Mining Site is located in the far southeast corner of the state.

When the mines stopped producing around 1941, the area was slowly abandoned. The ruins that remain are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The most haunting thing about this place is the way in which everything seems to have been simply abandoned. Automobiles sit in the shelter of their garages, as if they were just driven yesterday.
