The rolling hills and rich soil of the western part of the state has proven to be one of the best spots to grow grapes and make wine. In Taylor, about an hour north of La Crosse, Brambleberry Bed and Breakfast and Winery invites you to stay at their beautiful vineyard along with a charming farm and imagine that you’ve traveled to the Scottish Highlands.

From Scottish Blackface sheep to Highland Cattle, even the animals here will make you think you’re far, far away from Wisconsin. The rural country home was built by the owner’s grandparents in 1926. It has since expanded to accommodate the B & B and winery, but it still honors the Scottish heritage of their ancestors. Located in the “wilds” of Wisconsin near La Crosse and Eau Claire, a trip here is meant to evoke the simple country lifestyle of England or Scotland.

Even if you don’t stay the night, head to this winery to taste their wide selection of both traditional grape-made wines and sweet fruit wines. Taste your choice of four wines for free. An additional flight of six wines may be purchased for $5. For $10 you may taste 10 wines and take home your custom Brambleberry Winery glass. The tasting menu changes every two weeks. Make sure you get out and explore the area - the Brambleberry has two different trails. If you’re there in the fall, they’re a great way to see the fall foliage.
