The town has a long history of Oyster harvesting - dating back to Big Thursday in 1852.

For decades, there was an annual celebration on the third Thursday of each month. Now, the Bowers Beach Maritime Museum celebrates this event on a Sunday, so many Delawareans can come down to have a good time!
