Ask any West Virginian about the best parks in the state, and Blackwater Falls is consistently at the top of the list. It has hiking trails linked by gorgeous waterfalls and stunning views, truly living up to the state phrase “almost heaven.”

Blackwater Falls State Park, located in Tucker County, is the most photographed park in the state, and for good reason. The sights the park has to offer are a feast for the eyes. It has powerful falls that crash over cliffs as the water makes its way into Blackwater Canyon. This 62-foot waterfall is the largest in the park.

But it is not the only impressive waterfall in the park, just the most powerful.

Elekala Falls is the most serene and peaceful fall in the park. It’s no means a roaring 62-foot cascade, and it does not need to be. Every type of fall can be found here.

Additionally, many hiking trails run through the park, several of which lead to spectacular views. On days like this one, when the clouds hug the peaks of the Allegheny Mountains, it truly feels like heaven on Earth.
