There’s something unique about Idaho’s small towns. Each one of them has a distinct character to them that you can’t help but fall in love with. The town featured here definitely has its quirks. In many ways, the town of Blackfoot looks a lot like the quintessential small Idaho town. This historic town doesn’t have a tiny population, but it sure does feel like everyone knows everyone here. It’s one of those towns that seems stuck in a different time.

Many of Blackfoot’s buildings look straight out of an old movie. There’s certainly a feeling of nostalgia for a different era in the town.

However, Blackfoot is known for one attraction in particular: the Idaho Potato Museum. That’s right. There’s actually a museum dedicated to the history of potatoes here in Idaho! After all, Blackfoot does call themselves “The Potato Capital of the World” and that’s hard to disagree with.

Here you’ll witness eccentric oddities like the largest potato chip in the world. Only in Idaho can you see such an amazing wonder. The Potato Museum certainly adds a wacky element to this otherwise quiet town.

Just like any small town, you’ll come across some seriously weird things here in Blackfoot…such as a 20 foot tall woman beckoning for people to come visit Martha’s Cafe. She’s certainly eye-catching, that’s for sure.

However, Blackfoot is a truly special community despite all of its quirks. It may not get a lot of attention outside of the Potato Museum, but it’s certainly worthy. Every year, the town is host to the Eastern Idaho Fair which is definitely a sight to see.

Many of the town’s historic buildings are still standing. The Nuart theater is one of the most historic movie theaters in the state. In fact, it was one of the first theaters in Idaho to play “talking films” in the 1920s.

Blackfoot makes for a nice little stop on the way to Yellowstone or the nearby Craters of the Moon. The town sits right next to the mighty Snake River and has a backdrop of beautiful mountains on the eastern side of town.

The nice thing about living in Idaho is knowing that every town has something unique about it. Even in quiet towns like Blackfoot, you’re bound to make some memories.
