Bartlett Park came into this world in 1910 as an empty prairie area that needed some elbow grease.
Bartlett Arboretum Facebook Dr. Walter E. Bartlett of Belle Plaine bought this area and started to transform it into a local park for sports and entertainment, but he lined everything he could with indigenous trees. In 1937, his son Glenn took over and the park began to transform into his dream after seeing the Palace of Versailles gardens in France. He and his wife expanded it to a sort of “tree museum” that has slowly evolved into what we have today.
Comparing the differences between then and now are stunning.
