Minnesota is full of hiking trails, including some very long ones that cross the entire state. From the 300-mile Superior Hiking Trail along the North Shore to the 63-mile trail through central Minnesota, there are epic journeys for anyone who is up for it. But what if you prefer something a little more short and sweet? Luckily, those of us who aren’t up for a multi-day excursion have plenty of options. One of the best is a 1/2-mile hike that leads to a little-known lighthouse. Take a look:

Luckily, this stunning spot is an easy walk. It’s about 1/2 a mile along the beach to get to the point.

Along the way, you’ll be treated to the breathtaking sight of Lake Superior’s cold, choppy waters.

Eventually, you will come to a rocky area. This is Artist’s Point! Some of the rocks still hold the names of visitors from over 100 years ago.

These interesting rock formations are unique to the North Shore. You won’t find them anywhere else in Minnesota!

With the colors of the rocks combined with the sparkle of the water, it’s no wonder this spot attracts artists. Artist’s Point is truly gorgeous.

But the hike along the beach doesn’t end your adventure. You can walk along the pier to a small Lake Superior lighthouse.

The light was first lit in 1922. It has been guiding ships for nearly 100 years, and it still works today! Next time you’re in Grand Marais, make a point to hike out to this piece of Minnesota history.
