It’s no secret that Montana is a paradise for hikers. And while there are a ton of trails that would qualify for best hikes in the state, we happen to think that our hikes are some of the best on the entire planet. Trek down these trails and see if you agree.
- Grinnell Glacier Trail
Victor DiTommaso / alltrails.com There’s no doubt about it: This Glacier National Park trail is a hiker’s dream come true. The views never stop, and they’re unreal. Just make sure you go early to avoid the crowds (and carry bear spray).
- Emerald Lake Trail
Taylor Higley / alltrails.com This trail is excellent for many reasons, but mainly, it offers an excellent workout with great views. At 8.9 miles, it may not be ideal for beginners, but it’s perfect for anyone who wants a challenging but doable hike. The trail is located near Bozeman.
- Highline Trail
Shawn Mcclain / alltrails.com This is one of Montana’s most classic hikes, and it’s a spectacular trail. It’s 38 miles in its entirety, but you’ll start seeing stunning views almost immediately.
- Hyalite Creek Trail
John Tang / alltrails.com The Hyalite Creek trail takes you on a 12-mile trek to Hyalite Lake. On your way, you’ll see plenty of gorgeous waterfalls, walk through thick coniferous forest, and head up challenging hills.
- Palisade Falls Trail
Dexter Jarrett / alltrails.com Not only is this Bozeman area trail gorgeous, but at just 1.1 miles in length, it’s a breeze. The waterfall is stunning, but you’ll see plenty of other beautiful scenery along the way.
- Grotto Falls Trail
Marvin Hessler / alltrails.com What can we say… we love waterfall hikes here in Montana. But with trails like this 2.4 mile trek near Bozeman, it’s easy to see why.
- Mt Aeneas Summit Trail
Danielle Peterson / alltrails.com Make no mistake about it - this Bigfork trail is tough. The last mile is a straight climb up a giant hill, and the miles before it aren’t exactly easy. But the breathtaking views and wildlife make it all worth it.
- Iceberg Lake Trail
Anthony Novelli / alltrails.com Located in East Glacier Park, this 9-mile trail sits behind the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn. Most of the trail passes through open terrain, with most of the forested spots in the middle of the hike. The views are amazing, and the path isn’t too strenuous for beginners.
- Mount Sentinel Trail
Danielle Taricco / alltrails.com The views of Missoula don’t get any better than this. The 3.4-mile trail is one of Montana’s most popular, both because of its easy accessibility and the views.
Montana is definitely one of the most incredible places on the planet to hike. These hikes are all easy enough for beginners but beautiful for seasoned pros.
