If you were born in North Carolina or have been lucky enough to live in the Tarheel State at some point, then you know that there are certain foods that have become an integral part of our everyday lives. You’ll find most of these foods and drinks at restaurants around the state and in people’s kitchens, but travel over state lines and you might have a hard time finding them elsewhere.

Basically it means we like a lot of toppings on our burgers like chili, mustard, onions and cole slaw. The messier the better! Order a burger all-the-way in another state and they’ll look at you like you’re speaking another language.

Flickr Thomas Hawk What’s better than seeing the Krispy Kreme hot light on? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. And you won’t find a better glazed doughnut than from this Carolina staple. We love them so much we even have an annual 5K dedicated to Krispy Kreme.
- Cheerwine

Everyone in North Carolina is familiar with the Carolina-born drink Cheerwine, but people in other states often confuse it for actual wine. If you move somewhere else you’ll more than likely have to have the bubbly goodness shipped to you, because you can’t find it in many other states outside of the South. How sad is that?!
