We’re proud. Boastful. Bigger than life. And yeah, perhaps a bit weird. Like everything else we do around Dallas – Fort Worth, it is our uniqueness (or quirkiness) that makes us who we are. Here are 17 things that we Dallasites – Fort Worthians do:

  1. We pose with BIG signs whenever they appear.

richard wezensky/Flickr The BIG campaign (where the person forms the “I” in the sign) is the genius of Visit Dallas. The signs build on the city’s nickname as “Big D” and appear throughout the city and sporting different themes and colors throughout the year.

  1. Showcase our longhorn cattle drive heritage everywhere and every chance we get.

Amy the Nurse/Flickr And even conduct two “mock” cattle drives for tourists daily in the Fort Worth Stockyards.

  1. Still say “howdy” and “y’all.”

  1. Drive everywhere… for no other reason than we can.

Eric Chu/FLickr Maybe it’s that everything is so spread out here, or a control issue, but most locals prefer personal transportation over any other options.

  1. Worship all things deep-fat fried.

  1. Believe there is no such thing as a homecoming mum that is “too gaudy.”

  1. Attend the State Fair of Texas every fall and take an obligatory photo in front of the 55-foot “Big Tex.”

  1. Visit the legendary Texas Woofus while on the fairgrounds.

Steve Rainwater/Flickr A mythical chimera was first sculpted in 1936 as a mix of main animals of Texas livestock. The Woofus features the mane and neck of a horse, a turkey tail, pig body, duck wings, sheep’s head, and of course, Texas longhorns.

  1. Walk amongst them…

  1. See what our new “friends” are looking up at the Nasher.

Luis Tamayo/Flickr This always makes for great Instragram or Facebook memories.

  1. Put Texas on all things possible.

Davis Staedtler/Flickr We know it’s a little boastful, but we just can’t resist. The Dallas Arboretum even celebrates our state with a pumpkin display.

  1. Buy western clothes to look the part when going to the annual Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo or the ongoing Mesquite Rodeo.

  1. Visit the Dr. Pepper Museum in Waco so we who know to thank for our favorite soft drink.

  1. Dress for fall when the temperatures drop below 85 degrees.

Shandi-lee Cox/Flickr There are only sporadic days when we even need a jacket, but we still love the fall fashions, y’all!

  1. Visit Gilley’s in Dallas…

  1. Behold the eye.

  1. Get lost in the cattlepen maze at the Fort Worth Stockyards.
