There’s a lot less snow on the ground than there was a few months ago and every so often it feels as though a warm breeze MIGHT just blow through the air. While we might not be there yet, spring might actually be heading our way! In addition to the warm days thrown in between the cold ones, there are other signs of spring. The most obvious? Mainers are starting to display the tell-tale signs that they’re ready for winter to end. Here are just some of the often strange things Mainers do at the first sign of Spring!

  1. Immediately begin acting like it’s summer.

  1. Start dreaming of summer food.

navin75 / Flickr We went an entire, dark, long, cold winter without any lobster rolls. It’s time to see the light again.

  1. Immediately open every.single.window.

nachett / Flickr We’ve been cooped up long enough! Let that breeze (even if it’s freezing) blow freely!

  1. Begin mentally preparing for construction season.

  1. Start tending to the garden!

michaelcr / Flickr The ground might be hard, but it’s never too early!

  1. Take advantage of the snow.

jackflanagan / Flickr There’s still some out there and now that we know it’s going away, we start appreciating it! At least until next winter.

  1. Take stock of all the Maine treats we ate all winter.

auvet / Flickr While there are zero regrets here, there’s a slow realization that we’ll need to hit a few extra trails this spring to get back to optimal health.

  1. Over prepare for tick season!

timengleman / Flickr At the first signs of green, we never leave the house without those tiny abominations in mind. Be prepared folks! Especially in early spring when the nymphs are out. They’re smaller than a poppy seed and easily missed by the naked eye.

  1. Start planning out trips upta camp.

juliemelton / Flickr It might not be time just yet, but soon enough! Just have to get through days like this!

  1. Actually start appreciating all that extra time with the kids on snow days.

Paul VanDerWerf / Flickr They might have meant some cabin fever and the need for imaginatively thinking up new activities, but awww… the kids were cute those days.

  1. Unearth all the things covered by snow all winter.

pavdw / Flickr Bet you completely forgot about some of this stuff!

  1. Take mud boot inventory

kleinmatt66 / Flickr There’s no avoiding it. With spring comes the mud and with that mud comes the need for plenty of boots.

  1. Start appreciating the beauty of Maine all over again.

tigertabbyface / Flickr She really is a beaut in the spring!
