Ok, maybe they’re not silly, but they sure are fun to say. With our Native American roots, we’ve got a lot of town names that tend to trip people up. All across the state, there are interesting town names that make you want to know about those spots and you should – there’s lots to do in these awesome, fun Wisconsin towns.

  1. Baraboo

City of Baraboo Despite it reminding you a bit of trick or treat, this town in south central Wisconsin is the home of the Circus World Museum, a ton of Ringling Brothers history as well as Devil’s Lake State Park,

Flickr/Al Home of the hodag, this up north spot has a logging and a railroad museum, ziplines, the Northwoods Children’s Museum and all kinds of awesome outdoor activities, especially on the Wisconsin River.

City of Oconomowoc The far western part of the Milwaukee area is chock full of lakes, making it a great spot to enjoy the outdoors. Use one of the public beaches or head to the Lapham Peak Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest

Flickr/PatrickKuhl This awesome port on Lake Michigan has a huge naval and military history. The Wisconsin Maritime Museum alone is worth the trip, but there’s a quaint downtown and a paved lakefront path heading to Two Rivers, as well.

Flickr/Dave Located just north of LaCrosse right on the Mississippi River, you can explore the Great River Road, find some delicious locally-grown wine and explore the islands formed by the river and Lake Onalaska.

Flickr/David Wilson Who knows where this has anything to do with cuddling, but the Great Northern Railroad calls Spooner home and you can enjoy a variety of rides they offer. There’s also the Canoe Heritage Museum and the Railroad Memories Museum.

  1. Minocqua

Flickr/WIDNR One of the big “up north” hubs, Minocqua is literally surrounded by lakes. There’s an adorable downtown area, tons of forest land to discover, the lumberjack shows and so much more.

  1. Ashwaubenon

Facebook/NationalRailroad Aswaubenon surrounds Lambeau Field on there sides and is home to the National Railroad Museum, among other awesome ways to entertain yourself in the Green Bay area.

  1. Tichigan

Flikr/WIDNR No, not Michigan. This small little town in Racine county is on a little peninsula that juts into the Fox River. There’s a lake and state wildlife area, as well as the Bear Den Zoo and Petting Farm.
