If you’re from small town Ohio, you get it. It’s not that urban Ohioans think they’re better than us—they just have no idea what they’re missing out on.

We might get accused of cow tipping. (Please tell us: What IS that, anyway?!) And we might get made fun of for our small-sized graduating class. (Admittedly, we certainly have those. If you went to a small town high school in Ohio, you can likely relate to this list.) And we might even get laughed at for our accents. (But YOU don’t even think you have one, so who’s really wrong here?) Nevertheless, the following are 11 things every small town Ohioan wants the rest of the state to know:

  1. We’re not all surrounded by corn.

Cathy/Flickr Contrary to what you may believe, not every small town in Ohio is full of corn fields.

  1. Hunting season is just as important as football season.

John Lillis/Flickr And if you lived in a rural Ohio town, you’d think so too.

  1. Our windshield views are pretty stunning.

Mike/Flickr They make us drive around just for the fun of it.

  1. We’re hiding some of the most incredible attractions in the state.

Pat (Cletch) Williams/Flickr Ohio Amish Country alone should be enough proof of this one.

  1. We’re also hiding some of the most incredible restaurants in the state.

G &R Tavern/Facebook (But we sort of like to keep this one a secret.)

  1. Some of the most important (and unusual) pieces of Ohio and American history are hiding in our small towns.

Dough Kerr/Flickr Have you ever heard of Milan, Ohio? No? Thomas Edison was pretty familiar with it. Actually, he was born there.

  1. Parking meters are just cruel.

renee_mcgurk/Flickr Really? You’re going to charge us just to park? REALLY?

  1. Whenever some sort of crisis or tragedy happens in your family, your neighbors bring you hot meals for weeks.

Janine/Flickr You can’t get that living in a big city, guys. You just can’t.

  1. Living in a small town makes trips to the nearest big city that much more special.

Doug Kerr/Flickr In general, we’ve got nothing but love for The Three C’s and our other cities. <3

  1. It’s true what they say; rural Ohio IS beautiful.

Don O’Brien/Flickr You just can’t argue with us on this one.

  1. You always have a place that truly feels like home.
