Indiana might not be one of the northernmost states, but considering part of our state borders one of the Great Lakes, we have a lot to say about our insane winters. We might make fun of other states for freaking out when there’s a snow forecast, but that’s only to try to make ourselves feel better about our brutal winters. In case you were planning a visit to the Hoosier state, here are 11 reasons why you should never, ever visit during the wintertime.

  1. Everyone is miserable.

  1. No one even goes outside.

Ben Seese/Flickr We might as well be bears, because everyone in Indiana basically hibernates in the winter. Go outdoors? In the cold? Nope, not happening.

  1. There’s no way to get exercise.

  1. There’s nothing to even do.

Newfields/Facebook Family friendly events and outdoor attractions only happen when it’s warm out. There’s nothing going on in the wintertime.

  1. Sports are basically obsolete.

  1. It’s basically a lackluster season.

Shipshewana/Facebook There’s no magic, no fun, and no way to enjoy the winter weather.

  1. Plus it’s really ugly out.

  1. You can’t even drive.

Duncan Rawlinson/Flickr You’re basically prevented from going anywhere all season long…not that there’s anywhere worth going.

  1. We’re just a land-locked, flyover state with nothing worth seeing.

  1. There’s no color in the winter.

Nicolas Guarin/Flickr It’s basically white and shades of gray. Gross.

  1. Winter feels like it will never end.

wplynn/Flickr It just drags and drags. Then, in March, when we all get hopeful that Spring is finally here, it hits us with surprise snow and ice. Just lovely.

So if you were thinking of paying the Hoosier state a visit this winter, don’t! It’s bound to be a disappointment, what with all the incredible outdoor ice rinks, toboggan slides, and sledding spots. Even though you definitely won’t want to, check out these attractions you can visit in Indiana this winter, you know, if you actually find yourself outdoors for some reason…
