Here in Detroit, there are just some things you do and don’t do. From sports teams to defending the Motor City when someone bad-mouths it, here are ten unwritten rules every Detroiter lives by ’til death.
- We always root for the home team, no matter which sport.

- It’s okay to run a red light….

- We locate our city by using our hand.
Michigan Municipal League/Flickr Since Michigan is shaped like a mitten, it’s easier to show someone where you’re from by just illustrating it on your hand.
- We will always defend Detroit whenever someone attempts to say something negative.

- We are practically required to shout the Journey line: “Born and raised in South Detroit.”

- We go to Opening Day because it’s a ritual.

- Detroiters celebrate their 19th birthday in Canada.

- We don’t mention the “team down the road.”

- We never put ketchup on our Coney dogs.

- We never give up.
