There’s a whole lot to love about Kansas City, but everywhere has a list of things to avoid. Aside from obvious bad neighborhoods and the occasional creepy guy on the street, what else should you avoid when in Kansas City? Here’s a list of things you should just avoid at all costs.

  1. Out-of-state drivers when it’s snowing.

smysnbrg/Flickr To be completely honest, drivers from KC can be a problem too if they panic during a little snow. We don’t even get that much, but once the road’s slick, it’s crazy people time.

  1. People who don’t like the Plaza.

David Wilson/Flickr There’s no reason not to, unless you really hate crowds… but with a beautiful fountain, fun food options, and amazing lights, even the most reclusive of souls can find something to enjoy here.

  1. Getting lost in the maze of our city.

Anna/Flickr Even those of us who have lived here for a lifetime still get mixed up every now and then. Don’t feel bad the next time you have to consult Google Maps to get you out of somewhere you don’t recognize. It’s a big place!

  1. Hot summer days without a Skyscraper from Winstead’s.

Brandon Burke/Flickr Giant shakes are one thing many Kansas Citians look forward to when it comes to hot days and warm nights. When’s the last time you had a Skyscraper?

  1. Bad BBQ.

John Lillis/Flickr There’s nothing worse than bad BBQ when you’re in a city filled with good BBQ! It’s even worse when you’re looking for somewhere new to eat and end up disappointed.

  1. Parking in the sun in the summer.

David Michaelczuk/Flickr Some of us are lucky enough to have never been branded by a searing hot seatbelt… but most of us can remember using our shirts (or anything else) to try and save ourselves from the heat.

  1. Road construction.

Gilthander/Flickr We can whine all we want, but it’ll be here forever. It’s just something we have to endure until it’s all finally done… whenever that may be. We just know it won’t be anytime soon.

  1. Chain restaurants.

_skynet/Flickr We have hundreds of local restaurants to choose from, so why would you ever pick something that’s not totally unique and delicious?

  1. Tall grass in the summer.

ROBERT HUFFSTUTTER/Flickr If you’re not a fan creepy crawlies, you’ll want to avoid a few of the grassier hiking trails. Ticks love to hide here, so you’ll just want to skip these pests.

  1. Missing our sunsets.

Vincent Parsons/Flickr Kansas City sunsets are some of the best in America, and you’ll want to take a snapshot of every one of them.

Speaking of how cool our city is, check out this amazing aerial footage of our beautiful nighttime lights!
