Living in Milwaukee is the best, but growing up here is a whole other experience. There are a few things that make a person a true Milwaukee, and they’re not too hard to spot. Whether they’re talking about buildings and calling them different names, eating way to much cheese, or screaming at the screen during the Packers game, here are just ten fool-proof signs that someone definitely grew up in Milwaukee.

  1. You don’t remember a time when the freeway wasn’t under construction.

Michael Pereckas / Flickr “Marquette Interchange” is still a part of your vocabulary.

  1. You were afraid of the T-rex at the Milwaukee Public Museum.

  1. Nothing was worse than a Kopp’s employee forgetting to put a wafer cookie in your custard.

  1. You’ve seen the U.S. Bank building change names.

  1. This was always called a “bubbler.”

  1. You loved to swim in Lake Michigan until you became old enough to realize that it’s kind of gross…

  1. …and no summer was complete without a trip to Cool Waters.

  1. You grew up thinking the Packers were the only sports team you were allowed to root for.

Patrick Kuhl/Flickr As an adult, you probably still under this impression or you will be shunned by Milwaukee.

  1. Johnsonville Brats were the only brats worth eating.

H. Michael Miley / Flickr Of course, there’s also Usinger’s, but Johnsonville’s are tried and true.

  1. Cheese is a food group. No question.

These are just a few obvious signs that someone is a Milwaukeean, born and raised. What would you add to the list? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
