For some reason, the rest of the country has some pretty silly questions for those of us living in the Sooner State. I travel often, and when people hear I’m from Oklahoma, they all seem to have the same type of questions. Here are 10 of them:

  1. How many tornadoes have you been in?

Kelly DeLay/Flickr Surprisingly, the majority of Oklahomans have never been in a tornado. Even though we do get more than most of the country, they usually aren’t in heavily populated areas.

  1. Do you really run outside to look at tornadoes?

Jonathan Emmanuel Flores Tarello/Flickr Shamefully, yes we do. We know we are supposed to run to the shelter, but we like to go outside to see if we can see one with our own eyes. (I’ve lived in Oklahoma for more than 25 years, and I’ve still never seen one!)

  1. What is there to do in Oklahoma?

Larry Smith/Flickr More than you’d think. They think we just have a whole bunch of flat land and there’s nothing to do. Maybe we should keep it that way, so they don’t invade our great state.

  1. Do you guys really wear cowboy boots for every occasion?

Tammy McGary/Flickr Of course! They are acceptable at pretty much any event in the Sooner State. You’ll see people wearing them at football games, kid’s plays, and even weddings.

  1. Aren’t there a lot of hillbillies in Oklahoma?

Bruce Szalwinski/Flickr No, silly! That’s Arkansas. 🙂

  1. Do you eat fried food at every meal?

David Kessler/Flickr Maybe… isn’t everything better fried?

  1. Aren’t you guys really good at football?

OklahomaFootball/Facebook Heck Ya! Boomer Sooner! Hopefully, we add a National Championship to our record again this year.

  1. How do you handle the heat in the summer?

Thomas & Dianne Jones/Flickr It’s called water. Lakes, rivers, streams, pools… you name it, we are in it.

  1. Aren’t there some famous country music stars from your state?

Larry Darling/Flickr Oh, just a few. Ever heard of Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire, Toby Keith, Garth Brooks or Vince Gill?

  1. Have you ever been cow tipping?

Sage Ross/Flickr No! What is it with the rest of the country thinking all we do is go cow tipping?

What are the most common questions you get asked when you travel to other parts of the country?
