Oregonians are usually pretty easy going, but there are a few surefire ways to make us cringe. From finding litter on our favorite hiking trail, to people who assume we’re all hipsters, here are 10 foolproof things that are guaranteed to make our skin crawl:

  1. Telling us you just moved here from California.

Flickr/Oregon Department of Transportation Oregonians are typically a pretty welcoming bunch, but with so many people moving here recently (especially from the Golden State), we may inwardly cringe when we hear about more newcomers.

  1. Littering.

Flickr/Kate Ter Haar Few things are as cringeworthy as seeing your favorite hiking trail covered with trash. If we see you litter, we will assume that you hate the planet.

  1. Poor umbrella etiquette.

Flickr/Pame Figueroa While it’s widely said that real Oregonians don’t use umbrellas, we don’t have any negative feelings against them. What will make us cringe is seeing umbrella users with poor etiquette. If you’re running around with a giant umbrella, be careful! You could poke someone’s eye out.

  1. Speaking of rain, stop complaining about it.

Flickr/SoulRider.222 We get it. It can rain a lot, especially in the Willamette Valley. You don’t need to keep reminding us.

  1. Throwing your empty cans or bottles in the trash.

  1. Assume that we’re all hipsters from the TV show Portlandia.

Wikimedia/Kent Derek Portlandia is a great show, but it is not representative of all Portlanders, let alone all Oregonians.

  1. Destroy our nature.

  1. Trying to pump your own gas.

  1. Drink bad beer.

Flickr/Paul Sableman Considering how much incredible beer can be found all over Oregon, it’s truly a shame to let it go to waste.

  1. Fail to appreciate how amazing Oregon is.
