Winter in Kansas is always a beautiful time of year, but we’re always waiting for that first real snow. Even if we don’t like the cold or wetness of it, snow still makes our landscapes beautiful, just like a snow globe. Plus, many of them have plenty of decorations or holiday light shows to entertain you while you’re there. Unless Mother Nature waits until next year to start giving us snow, that is. This year, if it snows, why not check out some of these places for the perfect Christmas card shot?

  1. Cedar Creek Waterfall (Olathe)

brent flanders/Flickr This amazing waterfall scene is made perfect by snow and frozen icicles. It’s the only time this waterfall is quiet is when it’s frozen like this, covered in white.

  1. DeSoto

brent flanders/Flickr DeSoto is a quiet little town in Kansas that’s made into the perfect small town setting for a snow globe. Can you imagine shaking a snow globe like this?

  1. Castle Tea Room (Lawrence)

brent flanders/Flickr This beautiful tea room in Lawrence makes for a picture perfect scene to be trapped under glass.

  1. Mission

Buildings of Johnson County/Flickr Mission loves their Christmas, and when it snows, it makes a perfect little scene around this decorated tree here.

  1. Douglas

David DeHetre/Flickr These llamas are adorable, and it’s a good thing they have all this fur to keep them warm in their winter wonderland. I would love a llama snow globe!

  1. Leawood

Gary Gamso/Flickr This red and white scene is perfect for a postcard, a snow globe, or any other holiday theme you’re looking for. It just shouts “Kansas” and the blanket of snow is a perfect addition.

  1. Lansing

Luke X. Martin/Flickr Memories of those lost are stark against the snow, yet somehow make a calm scene fit for a snow globe. What do you think?

  1. Manhattan

N1NJ4/Flickr K-State is a great palce to build a snowman, and that’s just what we need to make this historic building more festive. Maybe it will come to life and help with finals?

  1. Overland Park

Nick Varvel/Flickr Walking through the Overland Park Arboretum covered in snow is like finding yourself in a faraway forest with a witch trying to give you Turkish Delight.

  1. Sedgwick County Park (Wichita)

turcottes78/Flickr Wichita isn’t really a town, but you can pretend this scene at Sedgwick County Park is part of one. The water looks so smooth, and when it’s surrounded by snow and a winter sky, it’s almost like a storybook skating rink in a snow globe scene.

After you’re done making snow globes from these gorgeous photos, why not warm yourself up and head out on this amazing Kansas Christmas Lights Weekend we’ve created for you?
